Annona squamosa is a small, well-branched tree or shrub in the family Squash.
It occurs in the tropical areas of the Antilles.
It reaches up to 8 meters in height.
Leaves thin, simple, alternate, rounded at the base and pointed at the tip.
They are pale green on both surfaces and mostly hairless with small hairs on the underside when young.
Flowers greenish-yellow, single or in short lateral clusters.
Fruit round or heart-shaped, called sugar apple, is edible with an aromatic flavor, eaten raw and as preserves.
