Acer rubrum is a large tree native to eastern North America.
The leaves are finely serrated, green, and light-colored and hairy underneath. In autumn, they turn a beautiful, intense red.
Small red flowers appear before the leaves are fully developed. It blooms in March and April.
The fruit is a double samara, typical of maple trees, ripening in late May and early June.
Acer rubrum requires fertile, well-drained soil with a pH ranging from neutral to acidic. It prefers sunny locations. It is frost-hardy.
