Acer campestre is a species of tree from the soapberry family. It occurs in southern and central Europe, the Caucasus and Asia.

It reaches a height of up to 20 meters

Leaves are opposite, slightly corrugated. The upper part of the leaf blade is shiny, dark green, the underside is grey-green. Young leaves are slightly hairy. In autumn they turn yellow.

Flowers are gathered in umbels of about 10, yellow-green in color.

The fruit is a flattened nut, called a samara, membranously winged, often slightly hairy.
