Acer palmatum

Acer palmatum is a small tree or large shrub with a wide crown, native to Japan, South Korea and eastern China. It grows up to 5 meters high.

Fruits are winged, up to 2 cm long, brown to red in color.

Leaves are dark green, 5-9 lobed, up to 10 cm long, turning carmine red in autumn.

Red-purple flowers, gathered in inflorescences. It blooms at the turn of May and June.

The bark is smooth, grey-brown or gray.
Acer palmatum grows best in slightly acidic, moist and permeable soil. It prefers a sunny or semi-sunny, sheltered position. Frost resistance down to -20 degrees C.
